Anyone interested in becoming a substitute teacher must have completed a minimum of 36 semester hours of credit from a regionally accredited, academic degree-granting college or university. Necessary substitute teacher application along with a state-mandated background check and fingerprinting must be completed.

Necessary substitute teacher application along with a state-mandated background check and fingerprinting must be completed.

In addition to the 36 semester hours requirement, substitute teachers must participate in a 20 clock hour training that is linked on the DESE website above.
