WELCOME:
The entire UniTec Career Center staff takes this opportunity to welcome students and visitors and wishes each success in his or her pursuit of educational and career goals. Visitors or requested to check into the appropriate office for information and directions.
Mission:
The mission of the career center is to create a learning community that enhances the individual’s abilities and knowledge.
The UniTec Career Center is proud to be one of the oldest institutions in or area. UniTec combines a sixty plus year history of technical education and ties to the community with a future oriented curriculum centered on placement trends in real jobs.
Articulation:
UniTec has articulation agreements with Mineral Area College for those interested in earning Associate Degrees in technical fields. Mineral Area has agreed to issue college credit for students who successfully complete technical programs through the UniTec Career Center.
Students who wish to receive college credit should contact the UniTec Adult Education office or Admissions at Mineral Area College.
Adult Admissions:
Adults who wish to attend will need to fulfill the admission procedures outlined below:
*Fill out an Application
*Submit a high school transcript, diploma, or GED certificate when appropriate.
* Deposit of 10% of total tuition.
*Completed Background checks when required.
Ability to Benefit:
Adults who do not have a high school diploma or GED may enroll in one of the many GED programs offered by UniTec located in a five county area.
Placement Services:
Although UniTec itself does not offer placement services we do however work closely with local state agencies placement services. Every effort is made by UniTec to help place all qualified students in suitable jobs or continuing education. Placement is not guaranteed by UniTec Career Center.

Financial Aid Programs
Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid at
least ten weeks prior to the beginning of the semester for which they plan
to attend.

undergraduates who do not have a bachelor’s degree. Based on financial needs. Applies to programs of at least 600 clock-hours in length. Pell Grants are
used with Mineral Area College articulations.
Automotive Technology
The Automotive
Technology program meets the industry standards required for Automotive
Service Excellence (ASE) certification in the area of brakes,
electrical/electronic systems, engine performance, and suspension and
steering. This program
covers various aspects of engine analysis, engine performance, diagnostics,
and engine electronics. Also
covered are power rain assemblies, brakes, electrical systems, carburetion,
fuel systems, front-end alignment and suspension, charging systems,
starting systems, clutch service, manuals, repair orders and cost
estimates. Actual hands-on
experience is provided using automotive hand and power tools, engine
analyzers, wheel alignment devices, and other state of the art equipment.
Building Trades provides students with a hands-on
project that utilizes both math and technology objectives. The program gives instruction in specific
objectives as well as exposes the students to budgets, real estate, and
housing designs. The program
includes class room study as well as practical experience in the carpentry
trade. Topics covered are tools,
safety, location and layout, site planning, wall framing, roofing,
stairways, interior and exterior trim and finishes. Each student participates in the
construction of carpentry projects which might include new construction or
rework type construction. The
building trades program tries to provide a realistic work experience. Successful completion of this course
will provide a background of training to enable the student to enter the
construction industry. Collision
Repair Technology The UniTec Collision Repair Technology program meets
industry standards with regards to refinishing, structural, and cosmetic
damage repairs. This program will
also strive to inspire students to pursue a higher education along with
other options that may improve their opportunities for success. Collision Repair Technology is an advanced program for
students wanting to enter the collision repair field. This class will teach the fundamentals of
cosmetic auto body repair, unibody, and full
frame repair. Students will learn
welding skills as well as Plasma Arc cutting. Refinishing techniques for panel repair,
overall refinishing, and custom painting will be covered. The latest technology in measurement,
estimating, vehicle construction, and repair process will be covered. Communication skills and math are taught
throughout the program. Building
Trades Technology
Computer Integration
Do you want to fix computers and networks? In this course students will learn the
skills necessary to service and repair computers. This course also prepares students to
become Network technicians through studying basic networking concepts
including design, implementation, and troubleshooting techniques. Installation and configurations of
servers will also be taught. We have programs for both computer networking and or
electrical component repair. Either
field is a demanding and rewarding program. Our network program is a day time class
that lasts two years in length while our electrical program can be taken in
a shorten version at night or a regular two year daytime version.
Culinary Arts The Culinary Arts program uses proven curriculum based
on the National Restaurant Association curriculums. The curriculum emphasizes a balance of
technical skills and knowledge for students to be successful in the
workplace and continuing education. The Culinary Arts class is an opportunity for students
who have an interest in learning more about careers in the field of
culinary arts. Students will learn
food preparation was well as other components of the restaurant and
hospitality industry such as purchasing and inventory, marketing, and
management, and successful customer relations. Communication arts and math skills will
be practiced as they apply to customer relations.
Graphics Technology
Graphics What a
fun career! Students will learn to
produce their own graphic creations.
The printing and design industry is a fast-paced, high technology
field. Students
who attend college to earn a degree in the graphics industry have the
opportunity for management positions or use their training background as a
career while pursuing a degree of their choice. During
your training you will receive course work in computer design skills, image
reproduction, finishing operations, digital photo techniques, digital photo
manipulation, and other graphic applications. Advanced
students will concentrate on shop management, designing and printing actual
advance jobs, and organizing production projects. Deadline production, customer service
techniques, and management skills will be emphasized.
DIGITAL
IMAGING Learn
techniques the professionals use!
Learn to produce quality images, set up studio lighting, incorporate
software applications including pixel detail, scan old pictures and repair
damage. Become skilled at photo
manipulation by importing and exporting properly to eliminate detail
loss. Correct procedures to display
your images for competitions will also be demonstrated. The
marketing and advertising industry considers digital knowledge a major
requirement for employment consideration.
The impact of promoting you personal talents or artwork to
prospective employers, colleges, or clients using images you create and
save has impressive results. In the
first phase you will learn to use digital equipment and software media with
confidence, including editing techniques, and special effects. Creating for the
advertising market while understanding copyright laws is also emphasized. This
course may be repeated for an expansion of techniques and produce portfolio
quality work. Owning your own
equipment is a benefit for this course. Metal
Fabrication is a program designed to prepare individuals to enter the work
force as a beginning machinist and/or welder. If a student is interest in careers like
metal fabrication, Boiler Makers, Pipe Fitters or CNC
operators/ programmers the metal fabrication program is for you. Machinist
will receive training on engine lathes, vertical mills, surface
preparation, grinders, reading blueprints, machinist math, and computer
numerical controls. The use of
CAD/CAM programming for/with the CNC mill will
also be part of the students training. Welders
receive training in welder’s math, welder blueprint reading, gas arc
welding, gas tungsten and welding, shielded metal arc welding, manual
plasma arc cutting and oxy –fuel cutting.
Students will learn how to operate an automated arc system that is
computer controlled. Math and
communication skills, as they relate to metal fabrication, are an essential
part of this program. All phases of
the welding and fabrication safety are strictly enforced in the Welding Technology
Program. American Welding Society (AWS) standards and procedures are available and
procedures are available to acquire welding certification. Metal Fabrication
Power Sports Technology Health Services Technology Electrical Trades Technology is a program where students
are trained to enter at entry level careers Electrical Engineering
Technicians, Residential Electric Electricians, Commercial/Industrial
Electric, Telephone Line Installation, Electrical Power Installation, and
Electrical Appliance installation. Residential Electrical programs provide students with
skills of installing electrical components in new and existing residential
structures. Advanced Electrical
programs introduce student to advanced and commercial applications in the
industry. Wiring materials and
wiring methods will be covered. Power Sports Technology is a course of study that
emphasizes instruction in power sports equipment like ATV’s and motorcycle
repair. This course will cover basic two- stroke and four-stroke engine
repair. Some instruction will be
given on power equipment such as lawnmowers but the emphasis of the program
is on power sports equipment. This
course will cover things such as propulsion repair, drive train repair,
suspension repair, and braking repair for each type of equipment. Instruction will focus on classroom theory, related
technical communication, and math, along with projects including “live
work” as hands-on projects. Students
will also receive instruction in the employment process. Leadership and competition opportunities
will be made available through various community service projects and
job-related contests as provided through Skills USA.
The Health Services program is designed to expose the
students to various careers in the health field and to assist him/her in
making a career choice. The Certified Nursing Program and the Certified Medication
Technician are programs to assist students to get certifications for Long
Term care positions. The C.N.A. program provides caring for the elderly. This course is 80 hours of classroom
instruction and 100 hours of clinical on-the-job training. The Certified Medication Technician Program includes
preparation, administration, reporting, and recording of medications. The course consists of 68 hours of
classroom instruction and 22 hours of clinical training. Insulin Certification:
Instruction in preparation, administration, recording and reporting
of insulin. Students must have
completed the Med. Tech. Program. C.P.R.: This is a short term class usually given
at the end of the C.N.A. class. It is additional instruction and opens to
the general public when offered. ELECTRICAL
TRADES TECHNOLOGY
Heating, Ventilation and Air
Conditioning
If you are interested in a career in the heating and air
conditioning field our program may be a good fit. During the first semester of training you
will learn the basics of the heating and air condition field with the
emphasis on certification of the Freon Certification test. The second semester of the program
deals with more advanced systems and troubleshooting experiences design to
help those identify issues in the field.
You should have at least a type one or certification card to take
this class. A side note to this program is that it is a high demand
area and many maintenance and electrical fields require this training in
addition to Electrical Trade careers and maintenance careers. REFUND AND CLASS INFORMATION Because continuing education classes are
self-supporting, the decision to run a class is based on the number of
people enrolled. Registrations must reach
the UniTec office two (2) days prior to class date. UniTec reserves the right to cancel,
combine or divide classes, change the time, date or place they meet. If the class requires additional
materials, you may want to postpone purchasing until you verify there is
sufficient enrollment for the class to run.
The information in this publication is based on conditions at
printing and is subject to change.
An attempt will be made to notify registrants by phone or mail if a
class is canceled. REFUND POLICY: Full refund will
be made if the class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment or the
class is filled before you registration is received. Any class may be dropped and a refund for tuition only
will be issued if you notify our office at least two days prior to its
start. Refund for tuition only (less $5 processing fee) will be
made if our office is notified prior to the second-class meeting. NO
REFUNDS OF TEXTBOOKS OR MATERIALS WILL BE MADE. Refunds will be made as soon as possible but will
usually be after the following North County R-1 School board meeting. Other Information: Costs for any text books, materials, tools, supplies,
fees and testing may be additional if not specifically stated in this brochure. Keep in mind there may not be sufficient
enrollment for the class to run. All
classes are held at the UniTec Career Center unless noted otherwise in this
brochure. Cancelation of classes due to weather is announced on KFMO, B 104, KREI, KTJJ and Froggy 96 radio
stations. Generally speaking UniTec
follows the North County School District weather cancelations. If North County R-1 calls school then the
Adults programs will also be called.. The Adult programs also follow the North
County R-1 School calendar for the regular school year. When North County is not in session we
will not have Adult classes running at the UniTec Career Center IF NORTH COUNTY R-1 SCHOOLS CANCELS CLASSES OR DISMISSES
EARLY, NO NIGHT CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT THE CAREER CENTER. Tobacco, alcohol, drugs and weapons of any kind are
prohibited on any schools campuses according to state and federal law. Violations can result in not only
discharged from school programs but possible felony charges by officials. There are charges incurred for insufficient funds
checks.
The
UniTec Career Center has the Adult Education and Literacy program for Iron,
Madison, St. Francois, Ste. Genevieve, and Washington counties. The AEL classes help students with needs from learning how
to read, through preparation for college, and career readiness, including
preparation for challenging the GED tests. There
are also classes for the English as a Second Language student. (All GED Programs are FREE!) The
state of Missouri is also providing GED classes
online for those needing to prepare for the GED

COSTS AND FEES * Daytime Adult programs are divided into three
categories. PART-TIME adult
students are students who attend two or less hours per day. HALF-TIME ADULT students are those
that attend 3 or 4 hours per day. FULL-TIME
ADULT students are those that attend 5 or 6 hours per day. * A 10% deposit is required to hold your spot in the
class with arrangements for payment of the class finalized before the
