At the beginning of the school year the students created the rules that would govern classroom behavior for the year. This year the students chose - 1. We will be polite at all times 2. We will work quietly and not disturb others. 3. We will listen respectfully when others are talking. 4. We will be friendly to fellow classmates. 5. We will be honest and trustworthy. 6. We will respect our teachers, other adults, and other students. 7. We will be prepared for calss every day. 8. We will arrive at class on time. 9. We will cooperate with others. 10. We will always do our best. Our school also follows the Positive Behavior Support (PBS) program. 1. Be Safe 2. Be Responsible 3. Be Respectful At the beginning of the school year we practice what each of these should look and sound like in ALL areas of the building. We practice again as necessary thoughout the school year so that all students are aware of the expectations for their behavior in all settings.
Students are expected to practice reading skills at home. Fourth graders are expected to read for 50 minutes each week. The minutes should be logged and turned in to Ms. Bailey as directed. Practicing the reading skills we learn at school is vital to success in reading across the curriculum. Please encourage your child to read and log those minutes! This year we will also have homework in fluency. Your child should come home with a fluency passage and graph to chart their reading fluency. Success in math this year depends on students having automaticity in recalling basic math facts. There are numerous websites under our Math links at Student Resources that will be helpful in gaining that basic mastery. The students also have access to XtraMath which helps them gain fluency. Math packets that include speed tests on the multiples of the week are sent home each Monday. Students are to time themselves for 1 minute and record how many problems they answered correctly on the attached graph. They may then complete the test page for more practice. Fluency packets that are completed and returned on Friday earn your child a Raider Buck. There should be plenty of time for students to finish assignments in the classroom. However, if your child has not finished his/her daily work in class, then that work must be taken home for completion and is due the next morning.
