Poetry Unit Requirements: April
is Poetry Month!!
1.
You will be writing and reading lots of
different types of poems. Your grade
will depend on following directions, effort, attitude, quality of poems and
illustrations. When you are finished
with your poems you will be able to create your own personal anthology.
2.
You may create a theme around your poems. Examples: love, nature, sports, the seasons,
holidays, friendship, etc. If you decide to use a theme, you must stick to it.
3.
Final copies of poems and illustrations should
be hand written directly in your book, in your neatest handwriting or word
processed on the computer and then glued into your book. Only stick
glue!!! It will make the pages wrinkle
if you use liquid glue.
4.
Write one poem per page. You may write a poem and illustrate on the
same page or use one page for the poem and one for the illustration. You will have a total of 12 poems in your anthology.
5.
The anthology must include a table of contents.
6.
Pick a favorite poem from another author to
include in your anthology. Be sure to
cite the author’ name.
7.
Each poem must include a colored
illustration. Illustrations must be in
color and hand drawn. If you would like
to use computer clip art or downloaded pictures, I will only allow half of the
pictures to not be hand drawn.
8.
You must create a rough draft of each poem and
illustration before you publish in the hard cover book. You will not be able to fix mistakes or get
another book if you mess up.
9.
You will create your own anthology book
cover. This must be hand drawn. Include a title for your poetry collection,
your name, 4th grade and the year.
10.
When you are finished with you poetry
anthology, you will be asked to share it with several people. Each of these people will write a few
comments about your poems on the comments page and then sign the critiques
page.
11. You
will be asked to write a self-reflection “feelings” paragraph on the final
page. Include items as: Did you have fun writing the poems? Which poems were your favorites? Did your mind change from the beginning of
the unit to the end? Any other comments
or feelings you have about poetry
12.
You must turn in your rough drafts with proof
or revising and editing.
13.
The most important part of this project is to have
fun with poetry and be creative!
